Why Do Fillings Become Necessary?

Tooth Decay
Tooth decay commonly occurs when harmful bacteria in your mouth produce acid that attacks tooth enamel, which leads to a breakdown of enamel and dentin.
Enamel Breakdown
Once tooth decay causes a breakdown of enamel or dentin, the affected structure must be removed and replaced by a filling material.
Acid Exposure
If a tooth is exposed to acid often, for example, if you eat or drink items that contain lots of sugar or starches frequently, white spots may appear where minerals have been lost. This may be a sign of early tooth decay and you should visit your dentist as soon as possible.
